LAGUNA BEACH, California (Ticker) - Lindsay Davenport has a new reason why she
will miss a Grand Slam tournament.
The former world No. 1, Davenport and her husband, Jonathan Leach, are
expecting their first child, IMG agent Tony Godsick announced in a statement
Wednesday.
A three-time Grand Slam champion, Davenport will miss the Australian Open in
January. Last season, she missed both the French Open and Wimbledon due to
injuries.
According to the release, the child is expected in early summer. There was no
mention if the 30-year-old Davenport plans to continue her career afterwards.
Davenport has won 51 career singles titles, including the U.S. Open in 1998,
Wimbledon in 1999 and Australian Open in 2000. She also captured an Olympic
gold medal in Atlanta in 1996.
Ending the season as the world No. 1 four times in her career, Davenport ended
this year ranked 25th.
