Two Inside-Tennis.net members teamed up this weekend to go to the USTA Midwest Sectional Championships (Chicago) to play together as a doubles team and to play in singles. Geoffrey Brodhead from Chicago and Frank Riley from California decided a few months ago to do the event to first introduce Geoff to USTA tennis and to give Frank the chance to play with another member of this great web site.

In the two days at the event Frank played in a total of 7 complete matches, Geoff played in 3 matches. A few things should be pointed out before I give the results. First this was the first time Geoff has ever officially played a match and second this was the first time Frank has officially played outside of California where he is a two time champion, 5 time finalist and former #1 in doubles.

So what happened, first I can say both Geoff and Frank walked away with two awards each. Frank went three rounds in singles, took 4th place in doubles playing with Geoff on a team and was a doubles finalist in the upper division playing with a player from the Midwest he had never met before. Geoff took 4th place in doubles playing with Frank on a team and was a finalist in the lower division in singles. Very nice USTA Pewter plates were given as awards and two have been added to Franks growing collection of awards and two have been added to Geoffs trophy room. Just to give Geoff due credit the guy is a national level runner and wrestler with tons of awards already.

On the negative side both Geoff and Frank have sore shoulders and Frank has several minor injuries including some minor foot problems, but none of that will stop these two from getting back out onto the courts to prepare for the next event in the near future.
