Singles - Final
(1) Justine Henin (BEL) d. (2) Amélie Mauresmo (FRA) 75 67(4) 76(2)
Doubles - Final
(1) Raymond/Stosur (USA/AUS) d. (3) Peschke/Stubbs (CZE/AUS) 67(5) 64 63
Final Facts
- Henin wins her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour-leading fifth singles title of the year, having already won Dubai, Doha, Warsaw and Roland Garros; she is now 5-1 in Tour singles finals this year (falling to Serena Williams in the Miami final), and is 34-16 lifetime.
- Henin is now 8-0 lifetime at Eastbourne, winning the title last year (4-0) and now this year (4-0).
- This was the first time since 1979 that the Eastbourne final was a rematch of the previous year's Wimbledon final, and like that time, the result was reversed; Martina Navratilova beat Chris Evert for the 1978 Wimbledon title, and Evert gained her revenge in the Eastbourne final in 1979.
- Mauresmo is now 1-3 in Tour singles finals this year, and 24-23 lifetime.
- Raymond and Stosur win their 20th Tour doubles title as a team, and fifth of the year; like Henin, they did not drop a set all week en route to the final, and in that first set they held four set points at 5-4.
Quotes
Justine Henin, 2007 International Women's Open singles champion:
"Amélie is definitely one of the best players on grass; it's a surface that I find difficult to play her on, so I am happy I was able to turn it around today. At 4-2 in the second set, she raised her level. I wasn't as intense anymore so that was the reason she came back into the match. It was a high level match and I would say better than our Wimbledon final last year."
Amélie Mauresmo, 2007 International Women's Open singles runner-up:
"I'm very happy to have gotten my rhythm back; grass is a very good surface for me and obviously I have fond memories of the last time I played on it. I'm very close to being back to my best level, and I'm excited about that."
