first batch of commitments for the 2008 season, this is pretty exciting..!! Not sure why Molik is not scheduled to play here? Or is she playing Hopman Cup?

I guess Hopman Cup yes...she usually plays...although maybe Stosur will be playing that event?

Molik is playing in the Hopman Cup with Peter Luczak...
I hope that Miss Jelena Dokic will play in the Gold Coast event...she said she would like so...she would obviously need a WC, and I don't think she will get a Maindraw WC, so she might have to qualify...we'll have to wait and see. ;)

do we know if they have a tournament to get the qualifying wild cards? That would probably be the best scenario for her..

Well after some quick research, I discovered that there will be a maindraw WC playoff for the 2007/2008 Gold Coast tournament, like the Australian Open WC playoff. Except with the Gold Coast WC playoff, there are 8 players in the draw...
So...Jelena got a WC into the Australian Open WC playoff...now let's see if she can get a WC into the Gold Coast WC playoff. :)
Wildcard Playoff:
Providing Australia's up and coming players with an invaluable opportunity, the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts will again hold a wildcard playoff off, with eight players invited to compete for a wildcard into the event.

I'm not exactly sure...maybe there are four direct entries, and four WCs? I'm really sure sure, sorry.

Oh whoops. I meant "I'm really not sure, sorry." not "I'm really sure sure, sorry." :p

hahahaahah:) So anyway when will we know if Jelena has a spot in the playoffs?

I'm not even 100% sure if she's gonna play in it...she said she would like to play in the Gold Coast or Hobart, and we have read these articles saying she is interested in Hobart so...I hope she plays both though. :)
But, if she is playing in the Gold Coast playoff, I think that it'll be announced in a couple of days...seeing as the maindraw starts on December 31, today it's December 19...I think it would be announced around the 23rd December? And the playoff would maybe start on Boxing Day...

Ok well Jelena isn't in the Gold Coast playoff...and it seems like she is gonna skip playing the Gold Coast event altogether, to overcome her thigh injury, and focus on Hobart and the Australian Open. ;)
Sorry, this thread is meant to be about other players than Jelena Dokic!
Who do you think will win the Gold Coast event, 2008?
I say Petrova but I'm biased so my opinion doesn't really count! :p

Stosur has withdrawn from this event and the Aussie Open...
My pick to win this is either Vaidisova or Szavay. ;)

Szavay hey? Interesting pick yeah.. I think she's the one girl who's tough to predict for 2008..ok maybe not THE one, but close:)

I really think people are overhyping her, but for this event I can see her going far. She's definitely talented though.
