(13) Dinara Safina (RUS) d. (7) Elena Dementieva (RUS) 36 62 62

Doubles - Final
(1) Black/Huber (ZIM/USA) d. Llagostera Vives/Martínez Sánchez (ESP/ESP) 36 62 102 (Match TB)

Final Facts
- Safina wins her sixth and biggest career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title (of her first five, one was a Tier II, one was a Tier III and three were Tier IVs).
- Safina is now 6-4 in Tour singles finals, and 1-2 at the Tier I level (she was runner-up to Martina Hingis at 2006 Rome and Jelena Jankovic at 2007 Charleston).
- Safina's wins over world No.1 Justine Henin, world No.6 Serena Williams and world No.9 Elena Dementieva were her ninth, 10th and 11th career Top 10 wins; this was the second time she beat multiple Top 10 players at the same event, after beating three at Rome in 2006.
- Dementieva is now 9-12 lifetime in Tour singles finals; she had won four straight Tour singles finals coming into this one, including at Dubai earlier this year.
- Dementieva had multiple Top 10 wins of her own this past week, over No.4 seed Jelena Jankovic and No.2 seed Ana Ivanovic (her win over world No.2 Ivanovic was her 12th career Top 3 win, and she is now 4-0 lifetime against Ivanovic).
- Black and Huber win their third Tour doubles title of the year, following title runs at Tier II stops in Antwerp and Dubai; it is their 15th title together and their eighth at the Tier I level or higher.
- Llagostera Vives and Martínez Sánchez are now 1-2 in Tour doubles finals together after finishing runner-up at Tashkent in 2002 and winning Acapulco this year.

Quotes
Dinara Safina, 2008 Qatar Telecom German Open singles champion:
"I hope I won't wake up tomorrow and realize that this was just a dream. Obviously, this has been the biggest success in my career and I still can't believe I actually won Berlin and beat three Top 10 players in one week. Right now I am the happiest person on Earth but the problem there is I don't have much time to enjoy it. Tomorrow morning I leave for Rome where everything starts again!"

Elena Dementieva, 2008 Qatar Telecom German Open singles champion:
"I played well in the first set but then Dinara started to move much better and also got more first serves in. I had problems returning and just wasn't as consistent as I needed to be to win today. I could see over the entire week that Dinara is playing well and her success today pays off all the hard work and discipline she put in over the years."

Cara Black, 2008 Qatar Telecom German Open doubles champion:
"It feels good to win our third title of the year, after Antwerp and Dubai. Let's just hope we can keep it up for a few more titles. Nuria and María played well and it just shows that there a couple of really good teams out there."

Liezel Huber, 2008 Qatar Telecom German Open doubles champion:
"We got it together at the end and are happy about the title here in Berlin. Credit to our opponents - Nuria and María are a great team and fought well, especially in the first set, but we made it through to win our third title of the year."
